I've been teaching Awareness Through Movement® classes since 1991, focused primarily on adults in mid-life and beyond. For many years, I maintained a private practice and now am partially retired and focus more on group classes. With my early gerontological training and work experience, along with additional training over the years, I am committed to helping students move younger: to continue to do what they need and want to do as they age. Independence requires continued movement and activity in a variety of realms, balance, upright posture, flexibility and the ability to problem-solve one's movement and life challenges. These have become the focus of my practice. In addition to weekly ATM classes, I teach two Mindful Movement for Parkinson's classes for those living with Parkinson's disease. One is an active class that includes floor work; the other is for those with more advanced PD, including cognitive challenges. We move slower, mostly in a seated position with some standing. Both classes address major challenges of Parkinson's disease.
