The human brain’s default mode network creates thought patterns and belief systems that may have aided our survival (in the case of trauma) or protected us from pain at particular times of our lives but over time as we grow and change, these same thought patterns may no longer serve us and our continued growth. These circular thought patterns can have great impact on our lives, often showing up as repetitive, destructive, relational habits with ourselves, our partners, our friends and family. These stories we tell ourselves are often deeply engraved in our psyches and we may not even be aware of them. We learn to compartmentalize and isolate from others because we often assume that our perspective and experience is the only way or the right way. In my experience, psilocybin may help break patterns, offer new perspectives, and “re-boot” the brain so that we can see things in a new light and with new information.
