I am Dr Earlynda Heuszel, physical therapist. Let me tell you a little about my career. I received my Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Des Moines University in 2003 and my Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2007. I began working in Women’s Health Physical Therapy soon after graduating in 2003. Since that time, I have earned my OB CAPP (Certified of Achievement in Pregnancy/Post-partum Physical Therapy) and my Pelvic Floor CAPP (Certificate of Achievement in Pelvic Health Physical Therapy) from the American Physical Therapy Association Section on Women’s Health Physical Therapy. I originally got started in women’s health physical therapy because, frankly, my manager told me I had to in order to help cover our Women’s Health Physical Therapist’s maternity leave. I grudgingly went and started learning about incontinence and pelvic floor. Little did I know that helping women live better lives through physical therapy would become a passion for me. I used to tell myself, as a new physical therapy graduate, that I did not have incontinence because I would only leak “a drop or two” when I was sick and coughing a lot. What I learned by covering that maternity leave was, that “a drop or two” is considered incontinence. We should never leak! After learning more about a woman’s unique pelvic health, I corrected all of my own symptoms and have never had symptoms since then, even after having my son.
